Hope became my anchor as I faced loss and grief. Through suffering, endurance, and faith in God’s promises, I found unshakable hope. The resurrection assures me that loved ones are more alive than ever, and I live with the expectation of eternal life and future glory.
Biblical Hope is not making a wish and blowing out birthday candles. It is a sure expectation that what God promised will happen. Jesus told His disciples He would be leaving them but assured them that the Comforter would come. This promise provides real hope and peace, even in troubled times.
When we followed the ambulance carrying Nicholas to the Emergency Room, we had hope that he would be revived. Even though it did not look promising, we prayed for a miracle. We were hanging on, asking God to work through the ER staff and save our child. What was the basis of our Hope?
“Why would you want to keep me from heaven?” Pops asked. Everything was happening so quickly for us, but right on schedule in God’s timing. We informed the family that Pops may not live much longer.
Death doesn’t win! You can know with confidence that what comes next for God’s children is an exciting adventure where we use our gifts and abilities to bring Him glory in a physical place that Jesus is preparing.
God used physical death to put a longing in my heart that should have already been there to get me to think with an eternal perspective.
If I believe that Heaven is so much more glorious than anything this World has to offer, I will slowly start to believe it was good for God to take my loved one there with Him.
