Hey friends,
There are some conversations that stay with you, long after the recording ends. This is one of them. Ashley’s story of Turning Pain into Purpose is tender and vulnerable, shaped by loss and a faith that remains steady even in the darkest moments. As we sat together and talked, I was reminded why sharing these stories matters—because in the midst of deep pain, God is still present, still comforting, and still holding us when words fall short.
Life can change in an instant. One moment everything feels steady, and the next, you’re walking a road you never imagined. If you’re carrying grief, silent questions, or a heaviness that feels hard to explain, I want you to know you’re not alone. I am here and I care. But more importantly, the Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18)
Why This Episode Matters
This episode is especially close to my heart. Today on the podcast, I sat down with my friend Ashley to share her story of child loss, grief, and steadfast faith.
Ashley and I knew of each other because we live in a small town and share some of the same connections. But it wasn’t until we suffered a similar tragedy that we truly understood one another. There is something unspoken between two souls who have experienced deep, shocking loss. Often, we don’t need many words at all—just presence and understanding.
Both of us are mothers of child loss. It’s not an exclusive club, but it is one no one ever wants to join. And yet, even here, God has been faithful.
The Core Truth
One of the most powerful truths Ashley shares is how she experienced God’s peace in the midst of overwhelming loss—a peace that truly passes understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)
Ashley lost her son Curt in a tragic accident caused by a drunk driver. Even though God could have rescued him in this life, He chose to bring Curt Home to Heaven instead. And what continues to impact me deeply is that Ashley never felt anger toward God. Instead, she felt His nearness and His comfort through the Holy Spirit—when everything about the situation said she should be falling apart.
God is close to us in our suffering, and He comforts us so that we can comfort others (Corinthians 1:3-4).
A Personal Reflection
Listening to Ashley reminded me once again that God does not waste our pain. Knowing how quickly life can change has shifted how both of us see the world. It’s taught us to savor moments, to love deeply, and to trust God even when we don’t understand His ways (Romans 8:28).
If you’re in a season of grief or heartache, I hope this conversation reminds you that God is still working—even in places you wish had never existed. He promises beauty in place of ashes (Isaiah 61:1-3).
